The Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities Showcase

University of Glasgow

June 2015

The Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities held its first national Summer School at the end of June 2015. More than 18 workshops, led by academic experts from across Scotland, were available to doctoral students from across the SGSAH’s 16 HEI members. Workshops ranged from ‘Public Humanities’, ‘Philosophies of Knowledge & Research’ & ‘Policy Relevant Research’ to ‘Feminist Research Methods’ & ‘Quantitative & Qualitative Methods for Arts & Humanities Researchers’. The inaugural Annual Lectures were held at the University of Glasgow, with keynotes presented by Professors Graham Harman (American University in Cairo) & Vinciane Despret (University of Liège). Laura Leuzzi presented the research project covering EWVA European Women’s Video Art in the 70s & 80s

The SGSAH Summer School signals the real potential of greater collaboration across Scotland’s HEIs. Professor Roibeard O Maolalaigh, Head of College of Arts at the University of Glasgow & Chair of SGSAH Board, launched the SGSAH Research Showcase. The College of Arts at the University of Glasgow is pleased to be able to provide the administrative base for the SGSAH as it continues to develop its innovative portfolio of activity over the next four years. Funded by the AHRC, the SFC & HEI members, further information about the SGSAH can be found here.

The first Summer School closed with a vibrant Research Showcase at The Lighthouse. Guests included Professor Paul Hagan, Director of Research & Innovation, Scottish Funding Council & Mark O’Neill, Director of Policy, Research & Development at Glasgow Life.
